Dortmund Central Station
The Dutch-Westphalian railway line used to connect the coalfields of the Ruhr to the Netherlands while supplying the Ruhr with agricultural products from the Netherlands. Today, it’s mostly schoolchildren, company trainees and students that use the Emscher Valley Railway. It’s especially busy westbound from Dortmund before the summer holidays as school classes make their way to the Movie Park in the nearby town of Bottrop.


Starboard and port marks for side channels
Safe water. These buoys are positioned on the starboard or port side of the main channel and on the port or starboard side of the side channel. Starboard marks have a red lateral stripe, and port marks have a green lateral stripe. Any top-mark will be a green cone on a starboard buoy or a red cylinder on a port buoy.
